Within Temptation

How did you hear from Within Temptation? One day like 5 years ago, I was intrigued by this genre of music called “gothic metal”. I’ve always listened metal music but not “gothic”, so I decided to search for “gothic” in the genre text box of the P2P program “ares”. After waiting some seconds, the songs started to appear, and I just started double clicking randomly some songs. After having a list of 20 songs or so downloading, I went to watch tv untill they finish. Okay and as you may assume, one song of WT was between the list. It was “Our Farewell”, I will never forget that. The thing that catched my attention and feelings was the second chorus, when the drums crashes and the distorted guitars were stummed. It gave me chills, the kind of chills you get when you discover a new good song, those ones that you know you will never stop listening to =).

Did you ever see them live? And when was it? Noooo, I’ve never seen them live… Can watching videos of their live concerts be called “live”? Hahahaha. BUUUUUT!!!! They are coming to Ecuador the 4th of Feb!!!! YEAAAH!!! It’s a dream coming true. Some days ago I saw their confirmed list of South America tour, and as I expected, Ecuador wasn’t included, as always (no bands comes to Ecuador, and to be a little harshly honest, I’m aware that coming here isn’t too profitable, because the mayority of people here doesn’t listen “good music” like WT’s =D), but I saw they were going to Peru and Colombia. That right moment I started searching for ticket’s point of sell and prices of hotels and flights.

What was your first WT CD? Unfortunately The Unforgiving. Not because I don’t like it (that will never be a reason and you know it hahaha), but because the albums don’t get here! (And as I said above, I think it may be because it’s not profitable to import those CDs here… =’(… ) I got The Unforgiving because this year my uncle travelled from here to the Netherlands to do some paper work, visit the family there (I have netherlands ascendance) and some doctors (he’s got cancer to the peritoneum… uncurable….) and he met with my father there (he lived in Spain at that time), which whom I’ve asked to buy me the “new” album and send it to me ¡somehow! hahahahaha.

Who is your favorite bandmember? Uhm… I don’t know, they all are the coolest people, they somehow fulfill each other, that’s why Within Temptation is beautiful. But I think (as a lot of men would also do… sorry Robert ˄˄’) that Sharon, not because her beautiful voice, the quality of her live performance, the fact that she’s gorgeus, her extrovert personality, the easyness in which she can give joy and happiness to her surroundings, *her smoking hot body* (sorry again xD), and her humbleness… but also because… well… yes! Because all of the above! =D

What is your favorite WT song? I have a lot of favorite songs. Each one of them are special because they remind and represent different things to me. Some of them bring back good memories I have, some others bring sad ones, which reminds me the strenght I need to get over them. Other songs have been dedicated to some buried love I had, and I’m sure she still remember me when she listen to them (WT is her favourite band too, you might see her around in the WT community). And of course there are songs that makes my day; listening those distorted guitars, the strenght they transmit, and beating of the drums, the rithm they keep, oh my god that orchestra sound! those violins and flutes! And of course the piano songs!; all of that make them my favourite songs, and make them special for a reason.

Okay but let’s see: Memories, All I Need, Forgiven, Somewhere, Our Farewell, Utopia, Bittersweet, Never-Ending Story, A Dangerous Mind, Final Destination, Running Up That Hill. I like ALL of WT’s song, it’s just that theses ones have a “story” back them =).

If you had one day to spend with the band, what would you do? I’ve asked myself this question several times, and still I can’t answer to it. I’ve even asked myself what would I say, ask, or do if with some miracle, I had the chance to meet them backstage or something like that. And every time I imagine myself standing in front of the band petrified, just that. Standing there with nothing to say, just speechless, saying the silliest thing ever… “Hi”… and then some cliché thing like “…sorry! It’s just that I don’t know what to say!” hahahahahaha. It’s like having a crush on a girl, I just love WT.

Anyways, if I could spend one day with them, I would… I don’t know, this is coming up to my mind at this momment, but I would like to get some paints and color pencils, and ask each one to draw something highly meaningful for them, that they think it’s important for people to know and share, like for example their values, their experiences, their view of the world, their view of their Utopia… I don’t know, they are just examples.

What is your best WT memory? It’s a global memory, it’s just having them everytime I’ve needed. This question reminds me the transformation of the house in Memories music video, I don’t know why. Anyways, I think the best memory is that, thanks to them, I could spent some beautiful momments with a girl I used to be with. There’s a lot of history between us, but not to make me suffer or so, but to think that life is full of changes and special momments, and it’s just matter of us to turn this momments into beautiful and worth the effort. After all, I know I will have Within Temptation forever in my life. Keep fulfilling lifes guys =).
