Within Temptation gets covered

In every successful band’s career it comes to that magical point, where people try to cover their songs or show their own singing talent by singing the songs from their favorite artist.

Within Temptation came to that point several years ago and when searching places like YouTube you can find several hundred videos of different people singing various Within Temptation songs.

You can separate the videos very crudely into 3 different categories. The first one is fans singing Within Temptation songs to honor them and show their love and appreciation for the song, the second is singers showing their own singing skills by singing the songs and the third one is artists who take the song and give it their personal twist. Whatever category, they all prove that they love Within Temptation music by making a cover of the songs.

Most of the videos that can be found on YouTube are with female singers. This is maybe not very surprising as Within Temptation have a female singer, but there are a few male covers of their songs as well, but there are some exceptions. You can find them by browsing YouTube and watching videos avaible there.

    I don’t want to be harsh, but…
    When we hear Original songs then after those covers…
    There is a gap, or an ABYSS. :D

    So I have a lot to say!
    For the first (The Howling), the lead singer is a pity we don’t hear enough! We hear the drums too!
    For the third (Where is the edge), I find that the girl has very bad breath and not quite place her voice!
    For the second (All I Need) is my favorite music may be transposed, but the singer is unpretentious!

    I really doubt the thought behind this article was to give negative feedback to the artists doing this.
    No, the cover versions can not be compared to the originals but that’s why we buy the Within Temptation CD’s.

    I want to give credit to the people posting videos on YouTube as they are very brave to put themselves out there like this. And doing such a good job!

    So please, people. Be nice and keep flaming away? :)

    Covering professional musicians such as WT isn’t an easy thing to do at all, and I must say I kinda like the three videos posted above, as they show different aspects of what covering a song means & implies. My favourite cover would still clearly be that of Laura Rose, as she is really performing something strong, emotional and powerful, in a natural and respectful manner. Great job =)

    Seriously, she is amazing! And she found all the songs by hear!!! You should take a look (or a hear in this case). She made a lot of songs from other band to. There is some songs from Nightwish that are even better then the originals (I don’t know if it’s impolite to name an other band in a comment, I’m new on this site!)

    Speaking of that, this summer I was on holiday in a small medieval town of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche Region and one night these guys have played with some cover of Within that I found cute, sure they can not be even remotely compare to the skill Within Temptation phenomenal, but they are good enough.

    I have nothing but respect for anyone who covers WT songs.
    My friend has been telling me for years that I could sing, but I always said I couldn’t. He finally wore me down, and the very first song I sang with his band was What Have You Done, as a duet with their lead singer. It wasn’t the best you will ever hear, but I am very proud of the fact that I chose a Within Temptation song for my first public performance. Keep on posting the covers, because whoever does it, you are passing on a brilliant band’s music to others. xx

    Alex, the singer was only 15 when we recorded this believe it or not! What a voice!

    you know, it would great if somebody made tabs or sheets or just midi file to some WT songs. I can’t find guitar scores to (for example): Dangerous Mind or Final Destination and many others….

    i love hearing different people’s interpretations of songs. i quite often play acoustic versions of WT songs in the lunchroom for my work mates. as for tabs and sheet music, this site  http://withintemptation.forummotion.com/t304-sheet-music  has a lot on offer, but it’s way more fun to figure it out by ear!
